Each week during the 2014 prep football season the Knights of Columbus Quarterback Club will release its Players of the Week awards. Following are the Week 3 winners for '14.
OFFENSIVE LINE OF THE WEEK
The Roxana Shells compiled 346 total yards from scrimmage in Week 3's 47-25 win over Hillsboro at home and the offensive line was a big contributor to that success. Roxana's O-line is made up of: Brennan Harris, Luke Curtis, Ethan Kurth, Billy Mathis, Josh Rudd and Trace Gentry.
The other nominee was the Civic Memorial Eagles.
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
Roxana's Luke Curtis garnered Defensive Lineman of the Week honors, picking up seven solo line tackles and six assisted for a total of 13 tackles. He also produced a fumble recovery that he ran in for a touchdown.
Other nominees were: Shilo Shoppel of East Alton-Wood River, Wyatt Sutton of Civic Memorial and Ricco Gipson of Alton.
OFFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
CM's Josh Whitworth takes the award after rushing six times for 63 yards and a score in Week 3 in Effingham. Whitworth also hauled in two catches for 61 yards and a score.
Other nominees were: Logan Reardon of Roxana, Justus Pedrero of Alton and Zack Womack of East Alton-Wood River.
DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
Rikki Lafferty of the Eagles compiled 12 solo tackles and four assisted for a total of 16 tackles in Week 3 at Effingham, earning him the Defensive Back of the Week award.
Other nominees were: Seth Chester of Roxana and Larry Calvin of Alton.
