Each week during the 2014 prep football season the Knights of Columbus Quarterback Club will release its Players of the Week awards. Following are the Week 5 winners for '14.
OFFENSIVE LINE OF THE WEEK
The Roxana Shells continue to dominate in the trenches on the offensive line. The Shells blocked for 508 total yards of offense and 34 points in a 42-34 loss at Greenville in Week 5. Roxana's O-line is comprise of Brennan Harris, Luke Curtis, Ethan Kurth, Billy Mathis, Josh Rudd and Trace Gentry.
The other nominee for Week 5 was Alton.
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
BRADY MCAFEE — MARQUETTE
Marquette Catholic's Brady McAfee garnered seven line tackles, one assisted tackle and one sack for nine total tackles in Week 5. McAfee also had two fumble recoveries in the 44-0 victory over East Alton-Wood River.
Other nominees in Week 5 were: Luke Curtis of Roxana, Michael May of Civic Memorial and Qiant'e Wagner of Alton.
CO-OFFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
TREY AGUIRRE — MARQUETTE
KAREEM HAMILTON — ALTON
Marquette quarterback Trey Aguirre and Alton running back Kareem Hamilton both had pick games in Week 5. Aguirre threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in the 44-0 win for the Explorers over EA-WR. Aguirre carried it seven times for 54 yards and two scores and was 5 of 18 through the air for 141 yards and three TDs.
All of Hamilton's offense came in the first half in Alton's 56-0 win over Granite City. Hamilton hauled the rock five times for 117 yards and three TDs.
Other nominees in Week 5 were: Logan Reardon of Roxana and Adam Hill of Civic Memorial.
DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
BRAYTON WILLIAMS — CIVIC MEMORIAL
Brayton Williams of Civic Memorial had seven solo tackles and four assists for 11 total tackles in CM's 47-27 loss to Waterloo in Week 5. Williams also had one interception.
Other nominess for Week 5 were: Seth Chester of Roxana, Jameyon Alexander of Alton and Danny Holtz of Marquette.
