EA-WR DROPS PSC GAME AT NOKOMIS — Back in action following their fifth-place finish at the Carlinville Holiday Tournament, the East Alton-Wood River Oilers took a loss at Nokomis on Saturday.
EA-WR dropped its Prairie State Conference match with the Redskins 55-43 to fall to 5-8 on the season and 0-1 on the league slate.
Mike Stimac paced the Oilers in the loss with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Blake Marks complemented him with 12 points.
EA-WR is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday vs. Calhoun at home.
CM TAKES SECOND AT PANTHER TEAM CHALLENGE — The Civic Memorial Eagles bowled to second place at the Panther Team Challenge in O'Fallon on Saturday.
The tournament included an eight-team Double Baker playoff with the top eight seeds participating in that. The second-seeded Eagles defeated the Belleville East Lancers and Alton Redbirds to force a final with No. 4 seed Rockton Hononegah. Hononegah won both games to win the tournament.
CM was represented in the tournament by: Dalton Harshbarger, Alex Zukas, Jacob Troeckler, Phillip Ramos and Ryan Hayes.
REDBIRDS FINISH FOURTH IN O'FALLON — The Alton Redbirds finished fourth at the Panther Team Challenge at St. Clair Bowl in O'Fallon on Saturday.
The Redbirds advanced to the Double Baker playoff of the 38-team tournament, defeating Collinsville 412-394 in the quarterfinals before falling to Civic Memorial 389-386 in the semifinals.
No. 6 seed Alton finished fourth overall because No. 1 seeded O'Fallon, which lost to Rockton Hononegah in the other semifinal, was a higher seed.
The Redbirds entered two squads in the tournament, with their other team finishing 27th overall. AHS' top team was represented by: Matt Gorman, Jacob Donahue, Tyler Stevenson, Justin Amistadi, Lucas Pejakovich, Matt Fritz and Nick Meggos.
