EA-WR EXPLODES IN WIN AT VALMEYER — Four East Alton-Wood River Oilers reached double figures as they closed the regular season in style with an 81-68 win at Valmeyer on Saturday.
The Oilers got 32 points from Blake Marks, 23 and 13 rebounds from Mike Stimac, 14 from Zac Butkovich and 11 from Dillon Buck in the victory.
EA-WR concludes the regular season at 11-17. The fourth-seeded Oilers now enter the Class 2A Piasa Southwestern Regional at 6 p.m. Monday against No. 5 seed Carlinville. The winner will face top seeded Southwestern at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
MARQUETTE FALLS AT BREESE CENTRAL — In a rescheduled contest from Friday, the Marquette Catholic Explorers dropped a 52-36 matchup at Breese Central on Saturday.
Marquette slipped to 18-10 with the loss in its regular season finale.
Shandon Boone led the Explorers with 11 points and Jacob Fischer chipped in 10 points in the loss.
The No. 1 seed in the Class 3A Jersey Regional, Marquette now sits idle until 6 p.m. on March 4. The Explorers will play the winner between No. 4 seed Jersey and No. 5 Triad, which battle at 7 p.m. on March 2 in the play-in game of the stacked regional. No. 3 Civic Memorial and No. 2 Highland meet at 7:30 p.m. on March 4 at the conclusion of Marquette's game.
