SHELLS TAKE DOWN OILERS — The consolation bracket set up with the rival Roxana Shells and East Alton-Wood River Oilers squaring off in their final game at the Dupo Cat Classic on Saturday. The Shells earned the bragging rights.
Roxana downed EA-WR 58-34 to improve to 2-1 on the young season. The Oilers slipped to 1-2 with the loss.
Maddy Sheraka paced the Shells with 25 points in the win, while Erica Sheets chipped in with 10 points and Elizabeth Rexford netted nine. Sheraka guided the Shells with 57 points in the three games in Dupo for a scoring average of 19.0 points per game.
EA-WR was directed offensively with nine points apiece by Kari Westbrook and Brandi Lacey in the loss.
Roxana opens South Central Conference play tonight, playing host to Greenville at 7:30 p.m. The Oilers kick off Prairie State Conference action on the road at rival Marquette Catholic at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
CM SPLITS TWO GAMES ON SATURDAY — The Civic Memorial Eagles split a pair of games on Saturday at the Salem Thanksgiving Tournament.
In the early game the Eagles fell to host Salem 46-39 after leading at halftime, squandering 19 points and 17 rebounds from sophomore Allie Troeckler.
The nightcap saw CM trailing at the break vs. Olney only to come back and win 57-36. Troeckler netted 25 points in the triumph, while Kaylee Eaton added 10 points and Katelyn Turbyfill chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.
The Eagles are now 2-1 on the season and will be back in Salem on Nov. 29 to wrap up the tournament.
MARQUETTE DROPS GAME TO LEBANON — Playing in the Columbia Tournament, the Marquette Catholic Explorers stumbled vs. Lebanon on Saturday, losing 54-38.
The loss sinks Marquette to 1-2 so far on the 2014-15 campaign. Claire Snider paced the offense for the Explorers with 12 points in the loss.
Marquette is back in action at 7:30 p.m. tonight at home vs. East Alton-Wood River.
