CM WRAPS UP REGULAR SEASON IN QUINCY — The Civic Memorial Eagles took their annual trip to the Quincy Notre Dame Tournament on Friday and Saturday to wrap up the regular season, posting a 2-3 mark.
The Eagles conclude the regular season with a 13-16-3 record, their most wins since 2010. They now delve into the Class 3A Greenville Regional at 7 p.m. tonight playing East Alton-Wood River in a quarterfinal game. The winner advances to meet Jacksonville in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Greenville. The regional championship is marked for 6 p.m. Thursday.
At the QND Tournament, CM opened with a 25-11, 25-22 loss to Springfield Lutheran and a loss to Grant, 25-12, 25-18 on Friday. On Saturday, the Eagles began with a loss to West Prairie 25-22, 25-8, but closed out the tournament with a 23-25, 27-26, 16-14 victory over Metro East Lutheran and a forfeit win over Danville (Schlarman). They finished fifth inside their bracket.
CM will begin its quest for the program's first regional title since 2012. The Eagles have six regional title in their history.
Prior to CM's regional contest vs. EA-WR in Greenville tonight, the Roxana Shells face the host Comets at 6 p.m. in another regional quarterfinal matchup. If Roxana wins, it advance to meet No. 1 seed Quincy Notre Dame at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
