ROXANA EARNS THIRD PLACE IN DUPO — The Roxana Shells finished 2-1 in the Dupo Cat Classic to nab third place in the tournament.
They wrapped up the tourney with a commanding 51-25 victory over Valmeyer in the third-place match. New Athens corralled the tournament championship, beating host Dupo 46-27 in the finals on Saturday.
Sophomore Hannah Rexford paced the Shells with 13 points in the win over Valmeyer. Domenique McDonald joined her in double figures with 10 points, while Sara Kreutztrager and Emma Lucas chipped in 9 apiece and Abby Palen netted 7 points in the win.
Roxana is back in action at 7:30 p.m. at Greenville.
CM TOPS CENTRALIA, LOSES TO TEUTOPOLIS — The Civic Memorial Eagles are 2-1 after two days in the Salem Thanksgiving Tournament.
After soaring past Carlyle 74-30 on Thursday, the Eagles topped Centralia 41-33 to open Saturday's action. Unfortunately, CM couldn't get over the hump vs. Teutopolis in the late game Saturday. The Wooden Shoes tip-toed past the Eagles 51-47.
CM finished second in Pool A and draws Pool B winner Salem at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 28 in semifinal action on the final day of the tournament. Teutopolis faces Highland in the other semifinal contest at noon.
MARQUETTE FALLS TO WATERLOO — The Marquette Catholic Explorers wrapped up the Columbia Holiday Tournament with a 44-26 loss at the hands of the Waterloo Bulldogs.
The win secured fifth place in the tournament for the Bulldogs, who are 2-1 on the season. Marquette is now 1-2 on the young campaign.
Lebanon won the title after beating Triad 53-47, while host Columbia nabbed third place with a 43-30 triumph over Greenville.
Waterloo led 21-17 at the half and forged ahead 34-19 entering the final eight minutes, thanks to a 13-2 third quarter.
Allison Hoefert scored seven points to pace the Explorers, while Caitlyn Hanlon added six, Brittany and Andria Pace each scored five points and Peyton Kline chipped in with three points.
Marquette now delves into Prairie State Conference action at 7:30 p.m. tonight at East Alton-Wood River.
EA-WR DROPS FINAL GAME IN DUPO — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers dropped a 32-24 contest to the Dupo JV squad to finish the Dupo Cat Classic winless.
The Oilers are 0-3 on the young season and start Prairie State Conference play at 7:30 p.m. tonight, playing host to rival Marquette Catholic.
