TWIN CITY WINS NATIONALS TOURNAMENT — The Post 1167 Senior Legion baseball squad went 6-0 to win the tournament, its third consecutive tournament championship.
Twin City concluded the season with a 30-3-1 record, winning its last 18 games in a row.
On Saturday Post 1167 closed out perfect pool play with victories over the St. Louis Warriors (7-1) and the Expos (18-0).
Blake Marks earned the win on the hill in the first game. Zack Seymour and Logan Reardon each had two hits to pace the offense.
In the win over the Expos, Josh Rudd logged the pitching win, while Marks, Howie Fisher and Tanner Davis all homered to spark the offensive attack. Fisher, Blake Lawson and Randy Skiff all had three hits in the win.
Twin City's quarterfinal win was over Indiana Brittons Bullpen by the score of 9-1. Spencer Heinemann garnered the victory on the mound, while Seymour, Marks, Fisher and Skiff all logged two hits at the dish.
Davis won the semifinal match vs. Southwestern on the hill. Post 1167 won 5-0. Blake Vandiver, Marks, Fisher and Skiff all had two hits. Vandiver and Skiff both drove in a pair of runs.
The finals saw Twin City top the Central Illinois Legends 11-3 behind Reardon on the mound. Seymour, Vandiver, Blake Weishaupt, Fisher and Skiff each had two hits. Weishaupt contributed a game-high three RBIs.
Skiff enjoyed a monster tournament. He was 12 of 18 with 4 doubles, 10 RBIs, 8 runs scored, 3 sacrifices, 3 hit-by-pitches and 2 walks.
POST 126 JUNIOR LEGION HEADS TO FIFTH DIVISION TOURNAMENT — The Alton Post 126 Junior Legion baseball team is headed to the Fifth Division Tournament on Friday through Monday at Legion Field in Metropolis.
Alton is joined by Valmeyer out of District 22. The seeds will be determined for the Fifth Division Tourney on Tuesday.
Joining Alton and Valmeyer are: Steeleville, Metropolis, Pinckneyville, Goreville and West Frankfort out of District 24/25 and Salem, Effingham and Olney from District 23.
The state tournament is scheduled for July 28-31 in Decatur.
