On June 4, Abbigail Zangori, 13, of Wood River, will compete in the MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition at Busch Stadium for the third straight season.
In order to qualify for the competition at Busch, Zangori had to advance out of the Vandalia Sectional. She won her division there and all three of her events. On May 21 she was notified that she was in the top three of all sectional winners in the St. Louis Cardinals' viewing area and had qualified to perform at Busch Stadium again.
Prior to her showing in Vandalia, Zangori won the pitch and run portion of the competition in a qualifying event in Carlinville on April 17. That performance propelled her into the Vandalia Sectional.
She hopes to get over the hump this season and the third time is the charm. If she can advance out of the Busch Stadium field Zangori will advance to perform a the MLB All-Star game on July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego.
