Architecture Meets Sculpture - Opening Reception
Jacoby Arts Center 627 E Broadway, Alton, Illinois 62002
A new Art Exhibition in the Main Gallery at JAC titled “Architecture meets sculpture” by Brad Eilering will be on display from September 12 - September 29, 2018. Other events will include an opening reception on September 14 at 6-8pm and a Gallery Talk with the artist on September 29 at 2pm. The exhibit will be a dialog between the space and the sculpture: defining, staging, complementing, and opposing the order of the venue.
Brad Eilering is best known for his rusty steel sculptures that exemplify multi-disciplinary and innovative attitudes. He is interested in mechanical things that communicate how they were made or how they operate. Though steel’s resiliency is what makes it a wonderful resource to hold up buildings and ships, he prefers to use the material to reveal vulnerabilities of our human experience.
Though a trained architect he is embracing his identity as a sculptor. Architecture does in influence his work with conceptual underpinnings of urbanism and industry, they are often site-specific, and they have a strong commitment to the environment. “I seek an approach reflecting content, meaning, and structure. Once installed, a new life is created - an integration of steel forms embedding themselves within the fleshy tissue of the environment, “ says Brad Eilering. Come see the for yourselves September 12 - September 29, 2018 at the Jacoby Arts Center.
