Life of an Illinois Soldier in the American Civil War
Edwardsville, IL – On Thursday, August 28, from 9:30-10:30am, Paul Shetley, Director of Environmental Resources Training Center will present Life of an Illinois Soldier in the American Civil War. A soldier from the Ninth Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment will relate his experiences during the American Civil War. The members of the Ninth Illinois (who were mostly from Madison and St. Clair Counties) answered President Lincoln’s call and joined the army in April of 1861. The Ninth fought at Shiloh and throughout the South while following General Sherman in his march to the sea. The soldier will be dressed in authentic reproduction of a Civil War army uniform and display reproductions of the equipment and weapons used by the men in Mr. Lincoln’s Army. These presentations are in partnership with the SIUE Office of Educational Outreach, with technical equipment provided by the SIUE Meridian Society. They are open to the public.
