ALTON — For those looking to experience a spiritual awakening, open the third eye or align chakras, It’s Raining Zen offers a warm and welcoming environment for beginners and veterans.
Formerly located in The Alton Exchange on Homer Adams Parkway, It’s Raining Zen now makes its home in the historic structure of the Mineral Springs Mall.
Growing from roughly 80 square feet of retail space to the open structure that includes the original sunroom, the New Age store has expanded to offer more than 120 varieties of crystals and gemstones and an increased inventory of books, incense, journals, herbs and essential oils.
“It’s Raining Zen is meant to be a transformative place,” owner Donna Nunnally said. “I want to provide a place where my clients can find a moment of peace and tranquility in the midst of their busy day. Before I opened the new location, I was so excited about the opportunities the Mineral Springs presented to allow me to listen to, learn from and interact daily with my customers. Many of my clients have become close friends. I’m completely overwhelmed with the support and kindness shown to me by the city of Alton and other business owners here in the downtown area.”
Once customers enter into the realm of Nunnally’s shop, they are greeted with sights, sounds and smells designed to create an inviting and comfortable atmosphere. Offering services such as reiki healing and intuitive readings, the store is also pet-friendly, welcoming furry family members with a complimentary healing.
It’s Nunnally’s desire for the business to become a “clearinghouse of information” for like-minded customers, a pursuit she feels is partially accomplished through her community bulletin board.
“The bulletin board is a great place for people to share opportunities, interests and services with the local and regional alternative and new-age communities,” Nunnally said. “We hope to add services such as art classes, education seminars and gallery showings very soon. Many have said that our shop is exactly the type of store our community was missing.”
Nunnally’s store is stocked with brightly colored clothing, home décor, exotic music, gifts, candles and intricately designed jewelry. The custom jewelry features the work of local artists CyRhen Sohngs and Ciera Lynne.
Nunnally is offering two promotions for her customers. Name the Zen Dog is part of It’s Raining Zen’s introductory marketing and social media campaign, while Pay it Forward Thursdays will give random customers their purchase free of charge under the condition they will pay the kindness forward to others.
