Hausman
A Bethalto man was charged Thursday in Madison County Circuit Court with a felony charge of retail theft under $300 (second subsequent offense), Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz said in a press release.
The man is identified as Brandon L. Hausman, 27, of the 100 block of Old Bethalto Road.
On Wednesday, April 23, at 12:13 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to Walmart, 6660 Godfrey Road, Godfrey, in reference to a retail theft. A Walmart loss prevention officer reported a man tried to steal a TV and vacuum cleaner. The loss prevention officer confronted the man as he was leaving the store with the items. The subject abandoned the stolen merchandise and fled south on Godfrey Road.
Deputies located the suspect in the 6500 block of Godfrey Road. The suspect was identified as Brandon L. Hausman. Hausman was taken into custody for retail theft and transported to the Madison County Jail, where he was held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The warrant and criminal information was issued by Judge Richard Tognarelli, who set Hausman’s bond at $20,000. Hausman qualified for the enhanced felony retail theft charge because he was previously convicted in Madison County, on July 11, 2012, for retail theft.
