ALTON — The Exchange Club of Alton announces its 2016 scholarship winners.
Vivian Vasquez of East Alton-Wood River High School and Brady Lewis of Roxana High School were this year’s recipients. They received their scholarships at a dinner in their honor May 19 at Castelli’s at 255.
Lewis won the Dave Bennett Award, a $500 scholarship given to a specially chosen student based on his ability to overcome a personal hurdle while still giving back to the community. Lewis received his award with his mother, Marcy Fay of Florida, and friends Jamie Johnson, Joey Johnson and John Crane in attendance.
Vasquez won the Accepting the Challenge of Excellence (ACE) Award, a $500 local scholarship that is progressive to a district and state-level competition. The award is given to a student who has overcome a physical or emotional obstacle during their high school years in order to graduate. Vasquez received her award with Zach and Cindy Butkovich in attendance, also of Wood River.
