Students and other youngsters pitch in to help spread the word regarding the Illinois Central School Bus search for new drivers. For their efforts, the children received a free meal at Captain D’s in Alton.
Illinois Central School Bus is currently hiring new drivers for the Godfrey location, serving the Alton School District…and is willing to pay them to do so.
“Through Aug. 10, anyone who signs up to be a driver will get a $1000 signing bonus,” Illinois Central public relations representative Marla Turner says. “We are looking for good, dependable drivers. This is a job, but there are benefits far beyond the contract, and those are the kids.
“There is personal satisfaction in knowing you have had an impact in the life of a child while serving your community.”
Applicants go through a background check, receive training, acquire their CDL permit, and then are assigned a personal trainer to prepare for the CDL testing, done in the area. Once applicants are driving for 90 days, they receive the bonus.
“It is normally $300, but this is an extra incentive,” Turner says. “You can get behind the wheel just as quickly as you want, and you are paid $8.50 an hour during behind the wheel training.”
School bus drivers receive paid training (after 90 days), paid holidays, free life insurance, and are paid weekly.
