Doris Blondell Carney, 84, of Granite City passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in Moro surrounded by her family.
Blondell was born on January 1, 1930 in Bells, TN, a daughter to the late LeRoy and Christine (Mallory) Rigsby.
She was a life long homemaker and mother and a member of New Life Christian Fellowship Church in Granite City. Blondell had a heart of gold and always thought of others needs before her own. She enjoyed singing and forwarding emails on her computer. She gave countless hours to her church helping out in whatever needed to done. She loved baking and decorating cakes and was known by all who knew her as the “Cheese Cake Queen”. She will be remembered for all the special times she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed by her son, Christopher and (Denise) Carney of Moro; daughter, Darla and (Dennis) Harper of Bethalto; grandchildren, Mike an (Lisa) Carney, Joe and (Amanda) Carney, Angela Yarbrough, Dane Carney, Ryan Nichols, Morgan Carney, Mathew Carney; great-grandchildren, Tyler Carney, Heather Carney, Brooke Carney, Lucas Yarbrough; and brother, Dennis Rigsby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. “Tod” Carney, whom she married on September 7, 1950; her sons, Dane Carney and Mike Carney; her sister, Joyce Humphrey; and her brother, Louis Rigsby.
Friends may call on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.
In celebration of her life services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Smith and “Her Man” Earl Hagy officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
