Susan Jane Summers, formerly of Granite City, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, in Barnes Jewish Hospital at the age of 53.
If ever there was a “free spirit,” it was Susan Jane. She lived her life on her own terms and never met a stranger. Material possessions held very little value to her and because of this, she was very generous with what she did have. Her personality was a fun-loving one and if there was music, she was dancing. Oh, how she did love to dance. She hugged strangers, loved children and had a fierce protectiveness of her loved ones. Susan also enjoyed music of almost any kind (but mostly rhythm and blues), drawing, singing, and relaxing on the river (but any body of water would do).
She was born May 4, 1961, to Delores (Mattingly) Lawson, whom she is now reunited with in heaven, and George Summers.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Fay Alexander.
Besides her father, she is survived by her life partner, Mitchell Wallace; eight siblings, Gloria Essman of Piedmont, Mo., Sheila Lawson of St. Louis, Barbara LaPlant of Park Hills, Mo., April Harrison of Granite City, Nancy Meyers of Granite City, Christine Summers of St. Louis, Mo., Garth Lawson of Ellsinore, Mo., and Reagan Baker of Patterson, Mo.; 26 nieces and
nephews; 28 great-nieces and nephews, three great-great-nieces and nephews and countless friends.
In lieu of flowers, any monetary donations will be used to purchase a commemorative bench to be placed at the creek where she lived.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014 in Patterson, Mo. Cremation services entrusted to Wojstrom Funeral Home and Crematory. Online obituary and guestbook available at www.wojstrom.com.
