Green’s first year with the Marquette Catholic boys’ basketball team is off to a good start.
The junior earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Metro East Lutheran Thanksgiving Turkey Tip-Off Classic after scoring 16 points against Gibault in the championship game on Nov. 26.
The effort earned Green this week’s AdVantage News Athlete of the Week award.
A transfer from Edwardsville, Green averaged 11 points per game in the four games of the MELHS tournament. He also scored 12 points against host MELHS in the semifinals.
Green helped the Explorers win their fourth Turkey Tip-Off championship and their first since 2003. He also became the first Marquette player to be selected the tournament MVP since Nick Certa won it back-to-back years in ‘02-03.
Marquette finished 4-0 in the tournament. Besides MELHS and Gibault, the Explorers also had victories over Christ Our Rock Lutheran and Staunton during pool play.

Golenor reached the 1,000-point mark of his high school basketball career in the Roxana Shells’ 52-35 loss to Madison in the seventh-place game of the Metro East Lutheran Thanksgiving Turkey Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 26 in Edwardsville.
The accomplishment earned the Roxana senior this week’s AdVantage News Athlete of the Week award.
Golenor scored 15 points against the Trojans, giving him a total of 1,003 career points. He scored in double figures in all five of the Shells’ games in the MELHS tournament. He scored 28 points in the opening game against Dupo on Nov. 22.
Roxana finished with a 3-2 record in the MELHS tournament. The Shells beat Dupo, Marissa and Staunton and lost to Gillespie and Madison.
Golenor was the Shells’ second-leading scorer last year at 13.7 points per game. He averaged 10 points as a sophomore and 5.5 points per contest in his freshman year.
