GODFREY — The Alton High Athletics Hall of Fame introduced its 2016 class of inductees on Wednesday.
It marked the sixth class to enter the HOF, which started in 2011. The group was honored with a short reception in the AHS commons and then introduced at halftime of the season opener for the Redbird boys' basketball team. The Birds went on to topple Riverview Gardens 67-54 in the nightcap of the opening night of the Alton Tip-Off Classic.
This year's HOF class included: Robert Astroth, Larry Jefferies, Gerald “Scooter” Wilson, Lindsay Kennedy-Eversmeyer, Kavon Lacey, the 1969 state champion boys' track 880-yard relay team (Jim Scruggs, Gerald “Scooter” Wilson, Oscar Wallace and Argalious “Gail” Murphy) and the 2000-01 boys' basketball team that reached the Class AA state tournament.
